Rep. Perry Stambaugh Reopens Office: Debate Canceled
Safety concerns force debate with John Hershey to be canceled
Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-86) reopened his New Bloomfield District Office after receiving a credible threat of violence on Thursday against himself and his staff.
An investigation by law enforcement is proceeding, “I offer my deepest thanks to the PA State Police, Capitol Police, House Republican legal team, and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office for their fast and efficient response,” Stambaugh said.
Stambaugh continued, “I also want to thank Perry Valley Grange for their swift action to cancel the planned debate with John Hershey scheduled for Friday night. Such action to protect the safety of others is essential. Safety is my top concern, and it is shared by the Grange.”
“It’s unfortunate that during the heat of the political season this incident has taken place and I call on my opponent, John Hershey, to join me in asking that cooler heads prevail. In our country, everyone has a constitutional right to express opinions and share information without fearing for their safety,” Stambaugh said.
Stambaugh’s office has reopened today. “I regret that my constituents could not do business at my office yesterday, but the people of Perry County know that I am obligated to look out for them first,” Stambaugh concluded.
The Stambaugh campaign has resumed operations.
