Stambaugh Votes 'No' on Pitt Funding for Experimenting on Aborted Babies

Budget Proposal Good for Pennsylvanians, Stambaugh Says

HARRISBURG – The $39.8 billion budget passed by the House of Representatives on Friday saves money for the future and invests in early childhood education, infrastructure, public schools and state police, according to Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Cumberland).

Although Stambaugh supported most portions of the budget, he voted “no” on the allocation to the University of Pittsburgh. Stambaugh expressed frustration about Pitt researchers using fetal tissue in experiments.

“Pitt’s refusal to cease using aborted remains is unconscionable and grossly disrespectful,” he said.

The spending plan being sent to the governor’s desk deposits $2.5 billion in the Rainy Day Fund for future use. It also allocates more than $1 billion in federal relief funds to nursing homes, the ongoing pandemic response, road and bridge projects, and emergency medical services.

“I’m thankful this budget reflects the need to save money for the future when the state may encounter an economic downturn. The proposal lays a foundation for years to come,” Stambaugh said.
